The National Film and Video Foundation’s (NFVF) Cannes Film Festival 2008 Program will be officially launched in Cape Town on the 6th May 2008, at the Protea Hotel, Sea Point, Cnr. Arthur’s Rd& Main Rd, from 12h00-15h00.
At this media launch, the NFVF will announce its program for the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and the South African delegation to Cannes. This will comprise of the NFVF, Department of Arts and Culture (DAC), Cape Film Commission (CFC), Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and South Africa’s prominent producers.
The launch will also serve as a networking platform where the NFVF will engage the media about its role in the film industry.
This year the NFVF will be celebrating 11 years of South Africa’s official participation at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. The event is scheduled to take place from 12th till the 24th May 2008.
The NFVF and its partners have hosted the South African pavilion annually at the festival to promote South Africa as a film making destination, positioning South Africa as a co-production partner of choice and to introduce South African producers to the international film industry market.
The Cape Film Commission is partnering with the NFVF in hosting this event. The CFC is the official representative of the City of Cape Town and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, with the objective of positioning both the City and the Province as a globally competitive film region, thereby boosting tourism, job creation and the development of core skills.
It is on this economic development premise that the Cape Film Commission in collaboration with the National Film and Video Foundation is bringing the Cannes Film Festival launch to the relevant Cape Town Producers who include feature film, documentary and made for TV Productions.
